Myanmar is cheap, incredibly cheap. I mean it even tops Vietnam and Indonesia, and until now it is the most affordable country I visited. In cities like Yangon, it’s actually hard to spend money, and even in the best restaurant in town, you will not pay more than 10 Euro.
In Myanmar rainy season lasts from June to September and you might ask yourself if you can still visit Myanmar in that time or if it isn’t the best idea? Can you do everything you want? And what positive and negative aspects are connected with a journey in Myanmar during the rainy season?
Bagan in Myanmar and Siem Reap in Cambodia have, surprisingly, a lot in common. I mean there are all the half-gone temples, the prices which are way too high, the scams and the lack of any activity except the temples. Well, maybe you can tell by now, but this is not going to be one of these “Bagan is so amazing” posts,” simply because it is not! There are so many places a lot better to visit in Myanmar. If you are completely blown away by temples and religion, you might like Bagan. If you aren’t a fan of religion, saw 5 million temples before and want some action while traveling, like me, you might not enjoy Bagan (Or Siem Reap) at all.
July – rainy season is in full swing, and I travel through Myanmar and later to Bangladesh. In Myanmar, one of the best things to do is to do a 3-day trekking tour from Kalaw to Inle Lake with a local experience and 64 Km walking over three days. Is it a good idea to do this in Rainy season or should you avoid it? And how was the trek and the experience?
One of these things, you notice straight away when you arrive in Myanmar is that most of the woman have some cream similar to their skin color on their cheeks or even all over the face. At first, it looks weird, especially if an immigration officer wears it but with the time you get used to it, and it just appears normal to you. But what is it? And why does woman wear it?
Myanmar just opened its borders a few years ago for tourists and with that people around the world can visit this country, which is somehow like out of this world. And in the end, it has everything that it needs to make up a perfect travel destination.
