I love Vietnam, but traveling is sometimes a pain in the ass in this enormous long country. There is only one train line, the reunification line and it goes from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh alongside the sea. A lot of places are not covered by this train, and it costs way more than the night buses.
I spent around one month in Vietnam, and I tasted the local food from the north to the south, and I could go the other way round again because it was so amazing. Here are the best dishes I ate:
Vietnam is cheap – very cheap! In the past, I showed you how much I have spent in one day in Bejing in Macau and now in Vietnam. Vietnam is here definitely the leader and you can have a great day for under 20 euros! Like this, I did a motorbike tour from Hoi An to Da Nang, slept in a Hostel, had good food and this for around 18 euros. Definitely one of the reasons why you should visit this beautiful country.
This journey was so crazy I must write about it and deliver a message that you shouldn’t underestimate a tropical storm. At the end I needed 48 hours to get to my actual destination, my legs are injured, and my valuables were nearly destroyed. But let’s start from the beginning.
I spent a total of 4 nights in Hoi An to visit the city and the surrounding areas. Unfortunately, the weather was not the best because there was a typhoon in the south part of Vietnam. However, I had some fantastic days and here are the things you can and should do in Hoi An.
This day was so much fun! I rented a bicycle and drove to the Duck Stop, and the Farm Stay in Phong Nha and had an amazing day. For 150.000 VND (5,6 Euro) I could feed the ducks, ride a Buffalo and got food at the end. I definitely had the most fun in the duck cage. They ate from my hands, from my feet, I was the “duck leader,” and I let fly a duck into the water. To end the day, I went to see the sunset at the Farmstay with a good beer and fresh fruits.
Phong Nha? Where is that? And what can I do there? That’s probably the questions you ask yourself right now. Everyone has heard from Ninh Binh, and you can read about it in every other blog but Phong Nha is nearly undiscovered, and that’s one of the reasons why it’s so amazing.
This Video is a bit different, I was just amazed at how great the streets in Ha Giang on the loop are that I created a video with the best driving scenes. In the four days we did one mountain pass after the other, hill up hill down – amazing views and one 180 degrees curve after the other. It was so much fun to ride the streets even if they were sometimes in terrible conditions.
The 4-day motorbike trip through the north of Vietnam was such an amazing experience. We had a semi-automatic bike and drove 400 km in 4 days to make a loop and arrive again in Ha Giang. On the third day, we did the most dangerous road in Vietnam. A path only 70 cm wide and on the side, it went down for 400 meters. So basically one wrong move would cost you your life. My body was full of adrenaline, but I’m happy that I did it because it was such an amazing adventure and everything went well.
Is it dangerous? Yes! Is there any comfort? No, not really. Would I do it again? Oh hell, yes!!
The best trip I had so far in my life was definitely the Ha Giang extreme Loop in north Vietnam. It was 4 days full of fun, adventure, nature, food and adrenaline. Friendships were formed, and limits got tested. I didn’t know..
