6 months into traveling nonstop – what it’s like – A motivation for you to start traveling

The past 180 days were just crazy. The 1st October 2018 I took my one-way flight to Beijing over Moscow, and since then my life was a nonstop adventure. It’s so hard to find words to describe this time and what it’s like, but I try my best to give you a glimpse of how unusual such a decision can be and hope to convince you to take the first step as well.

A non-stop Adventure

A non-stop adventure is actually an excellent word to describe my life in the last 6 months, and when I think about it, I get goosebumps every time. From climbing up volcanos to relax on the best beaches in the world over visiting the biggest and best cities in the world – everything was included. Getting into a typhoon, hiking in temperatures as low as 8 degrees or as high as 40, learning how to surf and getting a diving license where just a few of the crazy things I did. The Ha Giang loop in Vietnam is still my favorite experience, and I’m sure I’ll never forget these days. But also bathing with the elephants and seeing sharks while diving are moments which stay in my head.

Meeting the most amazing and inspiring people and learning so much about our planet – the good and bad things – was worth more than every master’s degree I could ever get. My view on things changed, I got more sensible about some things like climate change and most of all I myself changed a lot. I’m a lot more relaxed about so many things, and I discover myself even better as I did before. I know what I want even more, and I know how to handle tricky situations. It’s not like I couldn’t do anything by myself before – I was always very independent, but I now got the feeling as if I can manage nearly everything that comes into my way by myself.

Solo traveling – best decision ever

As you might know, I traveled the last 6 months mostly by myself, and I was a little bit worried at the beginning. That’s all gone, and I enjoy it even more as I could imagine. Of course, I appreciate it to have some company for a time, but I’m as happy to be by myself again after that. The moments being by myself have become the most valuable after all.

I realized that it is even possible to stay fit while traveling and try to be as healthy as possible. I also stopped drinking alcohol at all after just two months of traveling, and I didn’t drink one sip since then. In the end I enjoy sunrises and early morning gym sessions a lot more than having a hangover from crazy parties.

Don’t worry about the bad experiences

Of course, there are not only these good moments but in the end these moments outweigh. The bad memories disappear sooner as you think. For example, the sunrise on the volcano Ijien stays in my mind not the 10-hour journey to go there or the bad Hostel I stayed in. So, if you get into any miserable situation while traveling just remember that this is part of it as well, and the reward will be even better.

This is on one side a recap of what I learned and experienced in the last 6 months, but it’s also a motivation for you to take the decision and book yourself a one-way flight somewhere far, far away! I made the decision of my life after reading another Blog which said, “Don’t overthink, just do it you won’t regret it,” and now after 6 months of traveling I can say this guy couldn’t have been more right.

See you on the next adventures and stay tuned.
